The shop will pack consumables so that they cannot be consumed in Japan.
Be careful not to open the package.
You may have to pay tax at the time of departure.

Spending for general goods, which have been wrapped so they cannot be consumed while in Japan, can be combined with the spending for consumables. In this case, applicable requirements are the same as those for consumables. 

日本国内で消費しないように包装をします。出国するまで開封しないでください。
消費した場合には、出国時に課税されることがあります。

一般物品を日本国内で使用しないように包装した場合、消耗品との合算が可能となります。この場合消耗品と同じ要件になります。

About the Tax-free Program 免税制度のポイント

You can purchase any item in shops free consumption tax under certain conditions.

店頭において、全ての品目を一定条件のもと、消費税分を免税で購入できます。

The eligible residence statuses for tax-free shopping are "Temporary Visitor," "Diplomatic," "Official," "Landing Permission," "Port of Call," and "Transit" only. ※Please note that tax-free services are not available for individuals who have been in Japan for more than 6 months, U.S. military personnel (entering Japan under the U.S.-Japan Status of Forces Agreement), individuals working at domestic offices, and non-residents who hold Japanese citizenship.

免税でお買い物できる在留資格は「短期滞在」「外交」「公用」「上陸許可書による入国」「寄港地」「通過」のみです。※入国後6ヶ月以上経過した方、米軍関係者(日米地位協定により日本に入国した方)、国内にある事務所に勤務する方、非居住者のうち日本国籍を有する方の免税は受付をしておりません。

You must present your passport at the store to be eligible for tax-free shopping. Records of your purchase history will be sent electronically, so please be sure to present your passport to Customs upon leaving the country.

免税で購入するには、店頭でパスポート等の提示が必要です。

  • your spending is not within the range of the applicable amount.
